Can you believe the Orlando Comedy scene is becoming one of the most active and professional scenes in the country? There is a significant amount of working professional comedians that now call Central Florida home. Could it be that comedians are becoming more aware of the world of possibilities outside of the great comedy scenes of Los Angeles, New York City and Chicago? With a lower cost of living than any of the aforementioned comedy meccas and an ever growing need for new shows, more comedians and producers are moving to all points off of the I-4. Larry the Cable Guy A.K.A. Dan Whitney is from Sanford, Daniel Tosh of Comedy Central’s “Tosh.0” went to high school in Titusville. With the grand reopening of The Orlando Improv (now at Pointe Orlando on I-drive), Gary Menke is bringing in top national headliners. The Bonkerz rooms and Groucho’s rooms all over Central Florida are seeing an increase in attendance and a demand for better shows. There are even free showcases and open mics that are popping up such as the Central Florida Stand Up Showcase in Kissimmee and the amazing open mic at The Other Bar on Monday Nights at 9pm in Downtown Orlando, right on Wall Street. As the scene progresses, expect to see new films and TV shows being filmed right here in Central Florida. It seems that the arts in Central Florida just got a punch in the arm from a bunch of comics on the clock.
